The European Union Film Festival in China is organized by the Delegation of the European Union to China as a diplomatic initiative for cultural exchange. Each year, it serves to bring films representing the 28 member states of the European Union to new audiences in China. Films are selected by the Film Festival team in collaboration with the national film bureaus of the EU Member States, as well as the major film distribution companies in Europe and China. Working together, these parties are dedicated to screening each Member State’s most prestigious and distinctive films. The audience will not only enjoy an unforgettable viewing experience, but also will take this opportunity to understand the culture, history and current social issues of the varied regions of Europe. Promoting understanding and exchange between Europe and China is what the EUFF is all about!

The “Cannes Selections” at the EUFF in China are a new and very special benefit for the audience. Each year the EUFF staff are able to travel to the Cannes Film Festival and negotiate to obtain the newest and best films from the premieres there. Movies first shown at Cannes in May, then brought to China as early as October used to be an impossibility. The EUFF and partners are bringing simultaneous film release in China and Europe to satisfying reality!

New channels for communication between European and Chinese filmmakers, entertainment media, and devoted audience members stands as another of the EUFF’s top priorities. The emotions we feel when watching these movies tie us all together. Outside of the cinema screening hall itself, the European Union Film Festival in China’s 10th Anniversary Opening Party will bring together Ambassadors, Producers, Directors, Writers, Actors, and all kinds of creative luminaries from Beijing and abroad. During the EUFF’s run of screenings in Beijing, there will be Q&A sessions with filmmakers, public panel discussions on general filmmaking topics, celebrations themed around specific movie selections, and a project pitching “shark tank”. Chinese filmmakers will be abundant at the 10th EUFF in China, meeting with European guests and diplomats to forge lasting partnerships and an open exchange of ideas and finished films.

The continued success of the European Union Film Festival in China is a testament to the warm relations between nations and the substantial benefits of China-EU partnership. Long may it persevere to promote cultural exchange between China and the EU!
